Colorado and Columbus baked a blockbuster trade in the NHL – the fresh star acquisition had to go!
The Colorado Avalanche and Columbus Blue Jackets have made a trade involving three players and two draft picks ahead of the NHL draft.
In the deal, the Avalanche are parting ways with center Charlie Coyle, 33, acquired from the Boston Bruins at this year’s trade deadline, as well as Miles Wood, 29, who has represented the team for two seasons.
Heading the other way is forward prospect Gavin Brindley, 20, drafted in the second round by the Blue Jackets in the 2023 draft, along with a third-round pick this year and a second-round pick in 2027.
Coyle, who is set to earn $5.25 million next season as per his current contract, played 19 regular-season games (2+11=13) and seven playoff games (0+1) for the Avalanche. Wood appeared in 37 regular-season games this season, tallying 4 goals and 4 assists. Brindley spent the entire season in the AHL, playing 52 games and recording 6 goals and 11 assists.
