Leijonat defender confirmed his transfer – the NHL dream also lives on: “This might be my last opportunity”
Finnish defender Robin Salo, who has represented SHL team Malmö Redhawks for two seasons, confirms to Expressen that he will be changing teams for the next season. He states that he will be moving to Örebro HK, a team he has previously represented in the spring of 2020 and during the 2020-21 season.
– Yes, I have signed a contract. It’s a familiar place for me, Salo tells the Swedish newspaper.
Salo mentions to Expressen that he is keeping the door open for a possible NHL contract.
– It might be my last opportunity. I’m not ruling anything out. It’s still early, and it’s not my decision whether I get a contract from there or not, Salo states.
Salo, 27, recorded his career-high of 7+33=40 points in 52 regular season games in the SHL this season. In the playoffs, he scored 1+1 in eight games. Malmö’s season came to an end on Tuesday when they lost the quarterfinal series to Skellefteå with a match score of 1-4.
During the 2021-24 seasons, Salo played in North America. During that time, he appeared in 32 NHL games with the New York Islanders, recording 3+6 points. In the AHL, he played 146 games (9+49=58).
Salo has also been seen in recent years wearing the national team jersey. He was part of last spring’s World Championships.
