New information about Kaapo Kakko’s situation
Finnish forward Kaapo Kakko is trying to resolve his contract situation through arbitration.
Seattle Kraken and Kakko failed to reach an agreement on a contract, which is why a third party is involved. Arbitration will ultimately determine the player’s salary if the team and player cannot reach a mutual agreement.
Kakko moved from the New York Rangers to Seattle last season. The Finn scored 10 goals and 30 points in 49 games for his new team.
Kakko’s one-year, $2.4 million contract with the Rangers, signed in June 2024, expired this summer. The 24-year-old forward is expected to receive a significant pay raise based on his performances in the spring.
In addition to Kakko, ten other NHL players have also opted for arbitration: Morgan Barron, Dylan Samberg, Gabriel Vilardi, Lukas Dostal, Drew Helleson, Conor Timmins, Arvid Söderblom, Jayden Struble, Maksim Tsiplakov, and Nicholas Robertson.
The hearings will take place between July 20 and August 4. However, a player can sign a contract extension at any time before the hearing.
