Philadelphia Flyers’ Finnish defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen, 31, continues to face bad luck in the NHL, as the Finnish player, who has suffered from injuries for a long time, is once again sidelined.

The Flyers announced on Monday that Ristolainen will be out for an estimated two weeks. The injury to the defenseman’s left hand reoccurred during Saturday’s NHL game against the Anaheim Ducks.

This setback is particularly unfortunate for the Turku native, as Ristolainen had just returned to the ice after a three-week absence. The game against Anaheim was only his fourth of the season and the first since his previous injury.

Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet confirmed to the media that this is a recurrence of a previous injury.

The towering Finnish defenseman’s NHL career has been overshadowed by ongoing health issues in recent years. Last season, Ristolainen was only able to play 44 games in the regular season.

Ristolainen was also part of Finland’s bronze medal team at the February 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics. He played six games in the tournament and recorded three assists.

According to the Flyers’ recent assessment, the Finnish defenseman is expected to return to the Flyers’ lineup in early November.
