HPK has made a notable player acquisition. The Hämeenlinna club announces that it has signed a contract for the remainder of the season with Swedish forward Mattias Tedenby, 36.

Tedenby brings a tremendous amount of experience from international hockey fields to HPK. The forward has played in the NHL, KHL, Switzerland’s top league, and Sweden’s SHL during his career.

In the NHL, Tedenby represented the New Jersey Devils for four seasons. In the 2008 NHL Draft, the Devils selected him in the first round with the 24th pick. The Swedish player accumulated a total of 120 NHL games and 126 AHL games.

In Sweden’s top league, Tedenby has played over 500 regular season games and nearly 100 playoff games over 12 seasons. He has celebrated three Swedish championships during his career.

HPK’s player scouting director Jukka Voutilainen knows Tedenby from his own playing career. Voutilainen expects the experienced forward to bring skill and leadership to the team.

– In addition to a strong CV, Mattias brings energy and voice to the locker room, as well as speed, leadership, and skill on the ice. We are very pleased that Mattias chose Kerho and the League as his playing place this season.

Tedenby is set to arrive in Hämeenlinna and join HPK’s team next week.
