The head coach of the Lions, Antti Pennanen, has named the Finnish team for the opening tournament of the Euro Hockey Tour to be held in Helsinki next week.

One of the most interesting selections is HIFK’s Daniel Mäkiaho, who will make his debut in the men’s national team.

The rise of the 25-year-old forward to the Lions is quite a story. Mäkiaho has never before received a call-up to the Finnish national team, even at the junior level.

The HIFK forward has been one of the biggest sensations in the league at the start of the season. Mäkiaho has risen to the top of the league’s scoring chart with 25 points.

In Pennanen’s fresh squad, another HIFK player, Iiro Pakarinen, is also included alongside Mäkiaho.

From the league, the team also selected, among others, Tappara’s Benjamin Rautiainen, Kärpät’s Eemil Erholtz, and Kiekko-Espoo’s goalkeeper Petteri Rimpinen.

The Finnish EHT group consists of a total of 28 players. Of these, three are goalkeepers, ten are defensemen, and 15 are forwards.
