The head coach of Pelicans, Sami Kapanen, has made a strong statement on Sunday evening on Instagram regarding the discussions surrounding the SM-liiga.

Kapanen wonders especially why the failures and setbacks of the league receive so much attention.

– There is a lot of talk about the super season and the pressures it brings. The focus is heavily on failures, setbacks are examined under a magnifying glass. Everyone wants to win, but those who do seem to not receive the attention they deserve for their victories!

Kapanen highlights several teams in his writing whose performances he believes have not received enough attention.

– Where are all the positive stories? Tomi Lämsä‘s response to skeptics while Lukko is at the top of the league, Ilves performs consistently well night after night, Kapanen wrote in the stories section of Instagram.

– Raipe Helmisen‘s coaching is once again leading the group towards the top and how the puck is once again under control in Mikkeli!

Kapanen also calls for more visibility for individual players who have succeeded in the league.

– Where are the big profiles of Daniel Mäkiaho or 18-year-old Oliver Suvanto when the games are going smoothly? Espoo’s Jere Väisänen is making his breakthrough at 26 without big speeches.

At the end of his writing, Kapanen also published a shocking English-language threat message that he had received.

– You must have cancer, stupid coach. I will kill your whole family, the message threatened.

Kapanen did not disclose when the message was sent or whether he had filed a police report about it.
