Ville Koivunen was the hero for the Pittsburgh Penguins in last night’s NHL round. The Finnish forward decided the game in overtime as the Penguins defeated the Nashville Predators 3–2.

Koivunen scored the winning goal at 63:44. He beat Nashville goalie Juuse Saros with a precise wrist shot, securing two points for Pittsburgh.

Koivunen was given responsibility in Pittsburgh’s second line alongside Avery Hayes and Hendrix Lapierre. The Finnish forward’s ice time exceeded 16 minutes.

Koivunen has appeared in ten NHL games this season, collecting five points (2+3) in those matches.

Pittsburgh had to work hard for their victory. The team was down by a goal late in the third period, but Rickard Rakell managed to tie the game just 66 seconds before the end of regulation. Rakell’s equalizer came from a setup by Sidney Crosby as Pittsburgh sought the equalizer without a goalie.

Nashville led the contest on two occasions. Steven Stamkos put the visiting team ahead in the first period, but Connor Dewar brought Pittsburgh level in the second period. Jayden Struble restored Nashville’s lead, but Rakell’s late equalizer and Koivunen’s overtime goal ultimately turned the victory to the home team.

Saros recorded 34 saves in the game. Pittsburgh’s goalie, Arturs Silovs, made 24 saves.

This victory was Pittsburgh’s second consecutive win. Prior to that, the team had lost four games in a row.
