The New York Rangers have strengthened their goaltending department by acquiring the experienced James Reimer, 38.

Reimer managed to play one game with the Rangers’ AHL affiliate Hartford Wolf Pack on a tryout contract. In the game played on Friday, he saved all 35 shots and kept his net clean.

The Rangers’ goaltending situation has been difficult due to injuries. Star goaltender Igor Shesterkin is out for the rest of the season, and Finnish goaltender Joonas Korpisalo is also injured.

The Rangers are expected to continue at least for the time being with the goaltending duo of Reimer and Dylan Garand.

Last season, Reimer represented the Ottawa Senators, where he played 14 NHL games with a save percentage of 88.6. Additionally, he appeared once in the AHL with the Belleville Senators.

Reimer has played 539 regular season games and 11 playoff games in his long NHL career. He has represented eight different teams in the NHL before moving to the Rangers.
