Finnish star Anton Levtchi, 30, playing in the Swedish SHL league for Luleå, may face a long absence due to illness.

Levtchi was injured in Saturday’s match against Djurgården after getting into a battle situation with Håvard Salsten. The Djurgården player lost his balance and fell, causing Levtchi’s left leg to be severely crushed underneath him.

The Finnish forward was helped off the ice looking pained and was unable to put any weight on his injured leg.

– He will undergo an MRI early in the week, and we have to wait for the results, Luleå’s strength coach Mattias Waaranperä told NSD.

Another tough setback for Luleå

Levtchi’s potential long absence would be a devastating blow for Luleå. The Finn has been one of the team’s key forwards, collecting nine (2+7) points in 12 games this season.

In his third season representing the Swedish club in the SHL, Levtchi has won three Finnish championships with Tappara in his career. He has played four A-international matches with the Lions.

Luleå’s injury situation was already difficult before Saturday’s match. The team was missing Finnish players Otto Leskinen and Valtteri Puistola, as well as defenseman Erik Gustafsson.
