Lehtitieto: The Liiga club loses its point machine – a new club is already known!
HPK’s star forward Sami Päivärinta, 23, is moving to Sweden’s SHL for the next season.
According to the Swedish newspaper Expressen Päivärinta has reached a verbal agreement with Linköping for the 2027–28 season. Based on several sources, the final details of the contract are expected to be finalized soon.
Linköping’s sports director Andreas Hägglund did not confirm the information.
– I know the name, and he is a good player. However, we have not announced anything like that, Hägglund commented to Expressen.
Neither did Päivärinta’s agent Mika Westerberg want to comment on the transfer news.
Päivärinta has risen to be one of HPK’s key forwards in recent years. Last season, the skilled center forward scored 16 goals and 41 points in 56 games in the Liiga.
The strong form has continued this season as well. Päivärinta has collected 16 points (6+10) in 17 games.
Päivärinta’s performances have also opened doors to the Lions. He was part of last spring’s World Championship team but did not get any playing time in the tournament. The forward has also been selected for Finland’s latest EHT team.
