Jokerit star receives a harsh penalty – dirty move brings a long suspension
The Joker forward Ville Leskinen has received a significant penalty for the events of the Mestis finals. The league’s disciplinary delegation imposed a five-game suspension on Leskinen for an incident in the third final match, where he struck Ketterä’s Juho Hallikas in the neck area.
The consequences were serious. Hallikas fell during the incident and hit his head hard on the ice, resulting in an injury.
Leskinen’s transgression occurred in the third game of the series, which meant the forward was already sidelined due to a temporary suspension for the fourth final that decided the Joker’s championship.
– Leskinen should have been aware of the opponent’s vulnerable position and avoided the strike. Considering the force of the blow to the head, the disciplinary committee believes the act endangered the opponent to such an extent that an additional penalty must be imposed, the statement reads.
The suspension may also affect the future. If the 30-year-old winger continues with the Jokers in the Liiga next season, the suspension will extend there as well.
The incident that led to Leskinen’s suspension can be viewed in the video below or here.
