HIFK made a loss – the CEO reveals the reason
The last financial year for HIFK ended with a loss. The Helsinki club announced its financial figures for the fiscal year that ended in April on Wednesday. The group’s revenue was approximately 18.7 million euros, which was 2.3 million euros less than the previous fiscal year.
The result for the fiscal year fell to a deficit of about 230,000 euros. In the previous fiscal year, the loss was around 140,000 euros.
According to the club, the main reason for the weakened result was an exceptionally difficult injury situation, which forced HIFK to acquire several new players during the season.
– We had to strengthen the team more than planned during the season. This increased player costs beyond the budget, as we did not want to give up our sporting goals. However, the final result was not what we and our community expected, CEO Ilkka Kortesluoma says in the club’s statement.
The decline in revenue was affected by the fact that fewer events were held at Nordis than in the previous season. Additionally, the team’s playoff journey ended earlier than budgeted.
Although the result was a loss, HIFK’s home games attracted the audience. The club’s average attendance per match was 7,597 spectators, and the arena’s occupancy rate rose to the best in the entire league – 93 percent.
