Trade involving three players in the NHL – Buffalo’s point scorer gets a new team and a big contract
The Buffalo Sabres and Utah Mammoth have made a trade in the NHL.
Buffalo’s forward JJ Peterka is moving to Utah. In return, defenseman Michael Kesselring and forward Josh Doan are heading to Buffalo in the trade.
At the same time, Peterka has signed a five-year contract with Utah, guaranteeing the forward an average of $7.7 million in season earnings. Thus, the new contract has a total value of $38.5 million.
The German Peterka, 23, was Buffalo’s second-highest scorer last season, tallying 27+41=68 points in 77 games. Peterka was Buffalo’s 2nd round pick (#34) in the 2020 draft.
Kesselring, 25, recorded 7+22=29 points in 82 games for Utah last season. His contract, guaranteeing $1.4 million in season earnings, is valid for the upcoming season.
Doan, 23, played 51 games for Utah this past season, scoring 7+12=19 points. Additionally, he played 28 games for the AHL team Tucson Roadrunners, tallying 11+15=26 points. Doan was drafted in the 2nd round (#37) of the 2021 NHL draft, and his rookie contract covers the upcoming season.
Peterka has been signed to a 5-year deal.
