Russia is being tried to be brought back to the championships – a big revelation from the IIHF president!
The president of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Luc Tardif has initiated discussions about Russia’s possible return to international competitions.
Tardif told the Canadian RDS channel that Russia’s status is currently being discussed in internal IIHF negotiations. According to him, a return could take place initially in the U18 age group competitions.
Russia and Belarus were banned from competition in 2022 after Russia began its invasion of Ukraine. The IIHF assesses the situation of the countries annually, and the next official decision-making meeting is in May 2026.
For now, Russia and Belarus will remain sidelined from international ice hockey at least until the spring World Championships.
