Donald Trump called the USA players – confusing reaction
MILANO.
The joy is at its peak in the United States ice hockey team. The team defeated Canada in the Olympic final in overtime with a score of 2-1.
In addition to head coach Mike Sullivan, three players attended the press conference: captain Auston Matthews and the Hughes brothers Jack and Quinn.
It was revealed at the press conference that President Donald Trump had called the players on FaceTime after the game. When the players were asked about it, the reaction was confusing: all three burst into laughter. This might have had something to do with the fact that they were all happily drinking beer throughout the press conference.
Eventually, Matthews managed to answer the question of what Trump’s call meant to them.
– We are all proud Americans. This is an incredible moment for us and for the United States. He called and congratulated us, Matthews said.
– There are a lot of variables regarding the journey home, but let’s see what happens when we get back home.
– It is an honor to represent this country, to wear this jersey, and to go home with a gold medal around our necks. I know what this victory means to the team and to all those who supported us.
