The Swiss top team SC Bern has named its captain for the upcoming season. The new captain of the team is Finnish forward Waltteri Merelä.

Merelä, 28, has not served as a captain in his previous career. He has represented Bern for two seasons and has been the team’s alternate captain in both seasons. Last season, Merelä scored 26 points with 12 goals and 14 assists in 43 games.

Merelä has played in three World Championships with the Lions. He was part of the team that won the world championship last spring. Merelä recorded 1 goal and 3 assists in ten games during the tournament.

The alternate captains for Bern this season are Benjamin Baumgartner, Alain Graf, and Marc Marchon.

In addition to Merelä, Finnish forward Miro Aaltonen also plays for Bern.
