Micke-Max Åsten, who has had a long career with HIFK, has retired from professional ice hockey. The 34-year-old forward announced this on Instagram in connection with a photo collage.

– As a young kid from Helsinki, I dreamed of being an ice hockey player, Åsten wrote in his post.

In his last season, Åsten played abroad in the French top league for Spartiates de Marseille. The club confirmed back in May that the Finn would not continue with the team.

Marseille was Åsten’s only foreign club. He moved to Southern France in the summer from HIFK, where he had played for an impressive 11 consecutive seasons.

In France, Åsten managed to play 16 games. In the regular season, he recorded 3 goals and 2 assists in 11 games, and in the playoffs, he had 0 goals and 2 assists in five games.

During his time at HIFK, Åsten accumulated a total of 541 regular season games with stats of 32 goals and 47 assists for 79 points. In the playoffs, he played 90 games for the Helsinki club, collecting 7 goals and 13 assists for 20 points.
