The Jokerit national team giant has been slapped with a ban!
The league’s disciplinary delegation has imposed a one-match suspension on Jokerit defender Miks Tumanovs.
The suspension stems from an incident in Wednesday’s Ässät-Jokerit match. Tumanovs checked Ässät’s Cameron Hillis in the final period of the game, but no penalty was called on Tumanovs for the incident.
The disciplinary delegation believes that Tumanovs’ check primarily hits Hillis in the head.
– Tumanovs directs his check in front of Hillis’ body line such that Tumanovs’ shoulder hits directly into Hillis’ head and bypasses Hillis’ body. Hillis’ head is thus the main point of contact in the check. Head contact could have been avoided by targeting the check at Hillis’ body or by refraining from the check, the disciplinary decision states.
The disciplinary delegation believes that Tumanovs has recklessly endangered his opponent with his check. In assessing the length of the penalty, it has been taken into account that Tumanovs approaches the situation at a low speed and the main impact is not particularly strong.
Tumanovs will serve his suspension during Jokerit’s home opener this season when they face JYP next Thursday.
The 25-year-old Latvian defender Tumanovs has not opened his scoring account this season after three matches. The 195 cm tall and 90 kg heavy defense giant represented Latvia at last spring’s World Championships.
