More arbitration hearings in the NHL – the clubs initiated the process
The Buffalo Sabres have entered arbitration with defenseman Bowen Byram. Utah Mammoth has done the same with forward Jack McBain.
Byram and McBain are restricted free agents. The arbitration will determine the new salary for the duo.
Neither player can sign an offer sheet at this time. Since arbitration has been initiated by the clubs in the cases of Byram and McBain, the player’s camp gets to choose the length of the contract.
Byram, 24, played 82 games for Buffalo last season, tallying 7+31=38 points. McBain, 25, recorded 13+14=27 points in 82 games for Utah.
Previously, 11 names voluntarily entered arbitration, including Kaapo Kakko.
The hearings will take place between July 20 and August 4. However, a player can sign a contract extension at any time before the hearing.
Since the team took them to arbtiration, the player (and agent) pick the term of the award. If they wish, both could choose two-year deals and go directly to unrestricted free agency. Still time to decide.
