Montreal Canadiens dropped two contract news – a lucrative deal for the Stanley Cup champion
The Montreal Canadiens announced two contract news. The team has signed extensions with forward Alex Newhook and defenseman Arber Xhekaj.
Newhook has signed a four-year extension with the Canadiens for the 2027-2031 seasons. The total value of the contract is 22.2 million dollars, ensuring Newhook an annual salary of 5.55 million dollars.
Xhekaj has signed a one-year contract for the upcoming season. The value of the contract is 1.5 million dollars. Before signing the contract, Xhekaj was a restricted free agent.
Newhook, 25, will earn 2.9 million dollars in the upcoming season. Having played three seasons in Montreal, Newhook finished last season with 25 points in 42 regular-season games (13+12) and 10 points in 19 playoff games (7+3). Previously, Newhook represented the Colorado Avalanche in the NHL, where he won the Stanley Cup in 2022.
Xhekaj, 25, has played four seasons in Montreal. Last season, he recorded 1+3 in 65 regular-season games and a staggering 116 penalty minutes. In the playoffs, he scored 1+1 in 13 games and received 28 penalty minutes.
