Continuation of a long NHL career – Carolina’s championship captain received an extension
The Carolina Hurricanes have signed their captain Jordan Staal to a one-year contract extension for the 2027-28 season. The base salary of the contract is 900,000 dollars and the signing bonus is four million dollars. Staal’s earnings can rise to as much as ten million, as the contract also includes performance bonuses of 5.1 million dollars.
Staal, 38, captained Carolina to a Stanley Cup victory last season. He played 75 regular-season games with a scoring line of 20+16=36 and 19 playoff games with a scoring line of 8+4=12. Staal was also awarded the Most Valuable Player of the playoffs.
Staal has played 14 seasons in Carolina and has served as the team’s captain for eight seasons. At the beginning of his NHL career, he represented the Pittsburgh Penguins for six seasons, where he also won the Stanley Cup in 2009.
In his NHL career, Staal has played a total of 1,403 regular-season games (318+429=747) and 181 playoff games (46+39=85).
