The current contract of Kasperi Kapanen with the Edmonton Oilers expires on July 1st. The Finnish forward is set to become a free agent without a new contract.
However, Kapanen’s fate with the Oilers may not be sealed just yet.
Sportsnet’s insider reporter Elliotte Friedman revealed on the 32 Thoughts podcast that Kapanen may sign a contract extension with the Oilers.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if Kapanen stays in Edmonton,” Friedman said during the broadcast.
Kapanen was traded from the St. Louis Blues to the Oilers midway through last season. The Finnish player appeared in 57 regular-season games for the Oilers, tallying 5 goals and 8 assists for 13 points, and played 12 playoff games with 3 goals and 3 assists for 6 points.
