HIFK acquired NHL experience – the club boss praises: “Leading player”
HIFK has signed a one-year contract with Canadian center Jake Leschyshyn. The 27-year-old Leschyshyn brings experience from the toughest hockey league in the world, having played a total of 77 games in the NHL for the New York Rangers and the Vegas Golden Knights.
HIFK’s sports director Janne Laukkanen states that the recent acquisition has impressed primarily with his versatility.
– The team needed reinforcement in the center. At this point, it was deemed sensible to bring in a two-way center who can play both power play and penalty kill. Special teams faceoffs are one of Leschyshyn’s strengths.
– Jake has played throughout his professional career between the NHL and AHL, which indicates a consistently strong player. Wherever he has been, he has always earned his place and found a role in the team. Jake is a leading player who can develop those around him during the game, Laukkanen lists in the club’s announcement.
Last season, Leschyshyn played 66 regular season games in the AHL for the Rochester Americans and recorded 13+9=22 points. In the AHL, the Canadian center has played a total of 364 games in his career, scoring 70+65=135 points.
Vegas drafted the forward in the second round of the 2017 NHL Draft.
