Juha-Pekka Hytönen made a surprise move
Known from JYP and the Lions, Juha-Pekka Hytönen continues his career in coaching in a new environment. Hytönen joins the coaching staff of the French men’s national ice hockey team for the 2026–2027 season.
The French Ice Hockey Federation announced that Hytönen will start as an assistant coach to head coach Yorick Treille. The appointment is backed by the team leader of France, Anssi Laine.
Hytönen brings strong experience from his playing career to the coaching staff. He served as the captain of JYP for nine seasons and achieved two Finnish championships and a CHL title with the club.
Playing as a center forward, Hytönen also represented Lausanne in the KHL and the Swiss NL league. He was also a long-time regular in the Finnish national team.
After his playing career, Hytönen has worked in coaching, including with JYP’s U20 team, the Finnish under-18 national team, and within the HC Ajoie organization.
In the French national team, Hytönen’s responsibilities include particularly special situations and the personal development of players.
