Ilves: three young talents are leaving – here are the new addresses
Ilves’ 18-year-old prospects, defender Ossi Tukio and forwards Jakub Frolo and Jiko Laitinen are heading to North America next season to play in junior leagues under CHL.
Tukio is moving to the WHL to join the Regina Pats, Frolo to the WHL team Kelowna Rockets, and Laitinen to the Moncton Wildcats playing in the QMJHL.
– Ossi Tukio’s contract with Ilves for the 2026–2027 season included a CHL option, which he used to move to the Regina Pats next season, says Ilves’ sports director Timo Koskela in the club’s statement.
Ilves negotiated options to replace the contracts of Frolo and Laitinen that covered next season, allowing Ilves the possibility to bring the players back to their roster later.
– We had very positive and constructive discussions with Jakub’s and Jiko’s representatives about the players’ futures from both short-term and long-term perspectives. Their contracts with Ilves covered the 2026–2027 season, but by mutual agreement, we decided to postpone the contract year to the future, says sports director Koskela.
– Ilves has the club’s option to bring the players back to their roster if they wish when they return to European leagues after their CHL stints. This solution serves excellently both the players’ development at this moment and the club’s future.
Tukio and Frolo played one game in the Liiga last season. Laitinen, on the other hand, recorded two Liiga games.
