Agreement public – Tappara found a forward known for one strength
Tappara has made a new forward signing. Swedish William Wiå joins the Tampere club on a 1+1 year contract, which includes Tappara’s option for the 2027–28 season.
The 27-year-old Wiå arrives at Tappara from Sweden, where he has played his entire professional career. The forward is known especially as a defensive player and a strong penalty killer.
Tappara’s GM Janne Vuorinen states that the club has found a player who fits the team’s needs.
– William Wiå is a defensive forward who excels in penalty killing. As an extremely tough elite athlete, William has been able to develop year by year, and last season was his best in Sweden. As a player with Finnish roots, it is great to have him in Tampere to help our team in the coming seasons, Vuorinen commented.
Wiå has played most of his career in HockeyAllsvenskan. Over eight seasons, he has represented four different clubs and played a total of 392 regular season games.
In those games, the Swedish forward has scored 113 points (56+57). In the playoffs, he has accumulated 50 games and 13 points (7+6).
Wiå also has experience in the SHL. He played 16 games for Djurgårdens IF and recorded one assist.
