Wait a moment! A surprise is coming from Latvia for the Lions
Kristers Gudļevskis has played an excellent World Championship tournament in goal for Latvia. He was named his country’s best player against Switzerland, and there was a shutout against Germany.
Against Austria, Gudļevskis suffered a defeat, but the goalie has played well in all three games for Latvia and has been one of the team’s driving forces.
If Finland is prepared specifically for facing Gudļevskis, the Lions might expect a surprise.
The Latvian Ice Hockey Federation is promoting the match starting at 17:20 with a large Mareks Mitens image. Mitens is Latvia’s second goalie.
Latvian media reports that Mitens may be making his World Championship debut. The 28-year-old goalie representing Banská Bystrica in the Slovak league would thus be getting the chance to play before SaiPa’s Gustavs Grigals, who completes the Latvian goalie trio.
Justus Annunen plays between the posts for Finland.
