The star forward known from Jokers made a splash – moving to the fifth highest league level!
Swedish forward Linus Omark, 38, returns to his hometown.
Omark is moving to play for his hometown ice hockey club Övertorneå HF. The team plays in Sweden’s third division, which is the fifth highest league level in the country.
– I contacted the club myself. It has been over 20 years since I last played for the team, Omark commented on his transfer to Aftonbladet.
Omark’s choice of club can be seen as a major surprise, as he has continued to make an impressive impact in the top leagues of Sweden and Switzerland in recent years. He also started this season in Switzerland with HC Lugano, playing 15 games with a scoring record of 4+7=11. Omark played with the club on a two-month contract and then declined a contract offer for the rest of the season due to family reasons.
Throughout his long career, Omark has played in addition to Switzerland in the NHL, AHL, KHL, SHL, and for the Swedish national team. In the 2014-15 season, he represented Jokerit in the KHL, finishing with 60 regular season games and stats of 16+30=46, as well as 10 playoff games with points of 3+6=9.
In addition to Omark, forward Johan Harju, 39, is also joining the Övertorneå team. Harju played with Omark at the same time in Jokerit, recording 3+4 points in 26 games. Additionally, he represented Jukurit in the Liiga during the 2022-23 season, where he played 12 games with stats of 1+1. Harju is now returning to the rink after retiring from his career in 2023.
