Time in Sweden was short – now Teemu Turunen speaks: “The only right solution”
The Swedish SHL club Örebro announces on its pages that Teemu Turunen‘s player contract has been terminated by mutual agreement.
The thirty-year-old forward played only one season with the club, which was marred by injuries. Turunen played 29 games in the regular season and three in the playoffs. He scored a total of 7+9=16 points.
Turunen is returning to Finland “for personal reasons.”
– It’s really unfortunate that I have to leave now, as I had a desire to prove myself after last season. However, it is the only right decision for me and my family, Turunen commented.
– I am incredibly grateful that this matter was resolved in such a good spirit. I want to thank everyone at the club for our time together, the forward continued in the statement.
The news came as a surprise to Örebro, but the club decided to respect the player’s wishes. Sports director Henrik Löwdahl commented on Turunen’s departure.
– It is really a shame that Teemu has to leave. We had high expectations for the upcoming season. Teemu came to talk last week and shared his situation.
– We came to the conclusion that we would terminate the contract so that he can be with his family. Even though we would have liked to keep Teemu, family always comes first.
Before moving to Sweden, Turunen played three seasons with Oulun Kärpät.
