Expressen: Super confirmation to the League – Teemu Turunen returning to Finland!
Finnish forward Teemu Turunen moved to the SHL last season, signing a two-year contract with Örebro HK. However, Turunen is set to leave the team after just one season.
According to Expressen, Turunen has requested the Örebro management to terminate his contract for personal reasons. The Swedish newspaper emphasizes that there are no conflicts behind this decision and that sporting matters do not influence it.
Expressen reports that it is likely Turunen will return to the Liiga next season, where he would be a top-class reinforcement.
Turunen, 30, scored 14 points (7+7) in 29 regular season games with Örebro last season. In the playoffs, he recorded 2 points (0+2) in three games.
In the Liiga, Turunen has represented HPK, HIFK, and Kärpät. He has tallied 311 points (131+180) in 383 regular season games and 32 points (13+19) in 41 playoff games. Turunen won the Finnish championship with HPK in 2019.
Throughout his Liiga career, Turunen has surpassed the 50-point mark three times. In the 2023-24 season, he won the Liiga’s goal-scoring title with 30 goals while playing for Kärpät.
Having also played for the Lions, Turunen won a World Championship silver medal in 2021. He has additionally represented Jokerit in the KHL and Davos in Switzerland.
