The return of Evgeny Kuznetsov, who won the Stanley Cup with the Washington Capitals in his career, to the NHL after a one-season hiatus is near.

Kuznetsov, 33, agent Shumi Babajev tells SportsDaily that he is currently negotiating with two NHL teams for his client’s services.

– There is nothing concrete to report at this time. We have selected teams from which Kuznetsov is interested. Two teams are currently trying to resolve their salary cap issues for a contract, the agent reveals without disclosing the names of those teams.

At least the Montreal Canadiens have previously been reported to be interested in acquiring the Russian center.

Babajev also stated that Kuznetsov will not return to the NHL at the league’s minimum salary, but the skilled player, who played last season with SKA St. Petersburg, is seeking a more lucrative contract.

Kuznetsov played 39 regular season games in the KHL last season, with stats of 12+25=37.
