Stanley Cup champion forward found a new team – career continues in Europe
American forward Zach Sanford, 30, is moving to Europe for the first time in his career. He has signed a one-year contract with Swiss NL club HC Lugano.
Last season, Sanford played for AHL team Rockford IceHogs, where he recorded 70 regular season games with points of 19+24=43 and 7 playoff games with points of 3+5. He last played in the NHL two seasons ago, representing the Arizona Coyotes and Chicago Blackhawks.
In his NHL career, Sanford has played a total of 334 regular season games (49+55=104) and 25 playoff games (2+6). He was a 2nd round draft pick (#61) by the Washington Capitals in 2013.
In addition to the Capitals, Coyotes, and Blackhawks, Sanford has represented the St. Louis Blues, Ottawa Senators, Winnipeg Jets, and Nashville Predators. He won the Stanley Cup with the St. Louis Blues in 2019.
