The Lions opened their campaign in the World Championships with a victory over Germany by a score of 3-1. The goals for Finland were scored by Anton Lundell, Jesse Puljujärvi, and Aatu Räty.

The captain of the Lions, Aleksander Barkov, who missed the entire NHL season, recorded an assist on Lundell’s power-play goal. Additionally, he played a significant role in Finland’s second goal, where he let Teuvo Teräväinen‘s pass go between his legs to Puljujärvi, who was able to score.

MTV’s experts praised Barkov’s performance after the game.

– The best two-way center in the world. He showed it again, even though he has only played a couple of EHT games in a year. He leads by example with his actions. It’s amazing to watch such hockey artistry, Juhamatti Aaltonen stated.

Olli Jokinen continued the praise for Barkov.

– It’s rare to watch a player who makes only the right choices. And always makes that choice for the team’s benefit. Let’s enjoy these few weeks now that we have such a player representing Finland. In every game, we can witness what a top player really is and where that top player’s level is with the puck, without the puck, and even on the bench and in the locker room, Jokinen exclaimed.

The experts also highlighted Barkov’s passion for the sport.

– He is constantly seeking answers on how to become better. He is not set in his ways but wants to learn something new all the time. That is a very important trait for a top player, Jokinen concluded.
