Buffalo Sabres GM Jarmo Kekäläinen has signed a two-year contract extension with the team’s head coach Lindy Ruff. Thus, Ruff will continue as Buffalo’s head coach until the end of the 2027-28 season.

Ruff, 66, led Buffalo to the playoffs this season after a 15-year hiatus. The team advanced to the second round of the playoffs, where they fell to the Montreal Canadiens in a seventh game. Ruff is currently also a candidate for Coach of the Year in the NHL.

Ruff first coached Buffalo from 1997 to 2013. He won the NHL’s Coach of the Year award in 2006. Ruff returned to the Sabres’ helm for the 2024-25 season.

In the NHL, Ruff has also served as head coach for the Dallas Stars and the New Jersey Devils. As an assistant coach, he has worked for the Florida Panthers and the New York Rangers.
