The HIFK management met on Friday for a crisis meeting to address the team’s gameplay issues. In the midst of a difficult start to the season, head coach Olli Jokinen has faced calls for his dismissal from various directions.

Sports director Janne Laukkanen opened up about the discussions’ content to Iltalehti.

– The HIFK management’s intention is to assist the head coach in every way possible to resolve gameplay issues. This was discussed thoroughly on Friday. Jokinen has the club’s support, and we will do everything we can to turn the game around.

HIFK is currently in 15th place in the league standings. On Thursday, the team performed poorly in the Stadin derby, losing to Jokerit 2–3 in overtime.

The next opportunity for a turnaround comes on Saturday when HIFK faces KalPa at home.

Solutions are also being sought in the player market. HIFK needs a center forward following Jori Lehterä‘s retirement and a temporary goaltender for the injured Tim Jueli. A goaltender is primarily being sought from Sweden.

– These matters are not always solely up to us – who will let go of a player, who wants to come to us, and who is able to come, but in the coming days we will make decisions, the sports director reminds, Laukkanen commented.
