The first local match of the season ended with Jokerit winning 3-2 in overtime.

Jokerit’s head coach Juuso Hahl believes the match was the most complete performance from his team seen so far.

– From Jokerit’s perspective, it was a very good match. The things we aimed to achieve were visible for most of the game. We were the dominant side. We created a lot of scoring chances and kept HIFK to very few scoring opportunities. Our inefficiency and the opponent’s goalkeeper’s excellent performance separated us from the three points.

Hahl was brief about HIFK’s game, but his opinion was clear.

– I’m not going to analyze that. The focus is on our own game. If you look at the statistics, it’s clear who performed better.

The most shocking moment of the match was seen midway through the third period. HIFK’s defender Ilari Melart delivered a heavy check from behind to Jokerit’s Riku Tuomola, who had to sit out some shifts for the rest of the game.

– He took a few hits. It seems that everything is fine, Hahl said.

After the match, HIFK’s Eetu Liukas criticized the actions of the Jokerit equipment manager to the media. According to the forward, the Jokerit manager shouted at HIFK’s Niko Huuhtanen from the bench.

Hahl did not notice the matter.

– No. Ask Eetu Liukas, Hahl said.

So you didn’t hear this?

– I have a lot of other things to do. I have no clue about it.
