The head coach of HIFK Olli Jokinen is receiving harsh criticism from Aition hockey analyst Petteri Sihvonen. He demands Jokinen’s dismissal and raises a surprising name in his headline as a candidate for his successor.

HIFK lost Thursday’s Stadin derby to Jokerit in overtime 2–3. According to Sihvonen, the team is at risk of getting stuck at the bottom of the league table.

– HIFK must fire Olli Jokinen. Not because Jokerit won the derby against HIFK, but because HIFK’s performance is chronically so poor.

HIFK entered the derby from the third-to-last position. On Thursday, the team stayed in the game thanks to Hugo Alnefelt‘s saves and Daniel Mäkiaho‘s two goals. Mäkiaho equalized in the final moments without a goalie, but Alexander Forslund secured the victory for Jokerit in overtime.

As a new head coach, Sihvonen suggests the surprising name Ville Viitaluoma. Sihvonen’s text also raises the possibility of strengthening the coaching staff if Jokinen continues.

– But if HIFK does not have the ability and strength to send Jokinen on his way, this is at least a visual matter: Jokinen’s staff must acquire at least one assistant coach who understands the game.

– I will give a name: Ville Viitaluoma.

Viitaluoma, 45, is serving as the head coach of HIFK’s U20 team this season and as an assistant coach for the Finnish under-18 national team. The former forward, known as a legend of HPK, also represented HIFK during his playing career.
