Florida Panthers’ Brad Marchand knee injury does not currently threaten to end his season. The star forward was injured in the game against the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday night.

Insider reporter Pierre LeBrun reports on TSN that Marchand is suspected of a knee sprain. His situation is being evaluated week by week.

Following the injury, concerning estimates emerged regarding the veteran forward’s potential absence for the remainder of the season. According to LeBrun, however, the worst fears seem to have subsided, although recovery may take over six weeks.

The Panthers are still awaiting the results of the MRI and have not provided a more specific estimate on Marchand’s return.

The Kings game was only Marchand’s second since returning from a long absence due to surgery for a lower body injury last summer; he last played in early March.
