Spring 2021 IIHF World Championship gold medalist Mikael Seppälä, 31, will be playing in the Czech premier league next season.

Sparta Prague announced on Tuesday that they have signed a contract with the defenseman who has played in four World Championships during his career. Seppälä has played for SHL’s HV71 for the past two seasons. Prior to that, he represented Tappara for two seasons and won the Finnish championship both years in the red and white jersey.

– Sparta followed my performances in the World Championships and immediately initiated contact. I immediately felt that it could be a good option for me, Seppälä says.

– Mikael is an excellent defensive defenseman, an experienced player, and a winner, the club’s sports director Tomas Divisek justifies the signing of Seppälä.

In addition to Mikael Seppälä, Jani Lajunen and Niko Seppälä will also represent Sparta Prague next season.
