Lionesses out of the Olympics – a harsh conclusion for the tournament
The Olympic tournament is over for the Women’s Lions. Finland lost the decisive quarter-final match against Switzerland with a score of 0-1.
The only goal of the match was scored by Alina Müller in the second period. The Swiss forward was completely forgotten in marking, and she managed to break free towards Finland’s goal. Müller finished sharply by shooting the puck between Sanni Aholan‘s pads into the net.
The Women’s Lions were in control throughout the match, but the scoring problems continued. Finland dominated the puck, but in the first two periods, the top scoring opportunities were few.
Only in the third period did the Women’s Lions manage to create a large number of scoring chances. However, Switzerland’s goalkeeper Andrea Brändli played a stunning match. She made an incredible 40 saves, and the Finnish players frustratedly slammed their sticks on the ice as Brändli shut them out time and again.
The whole tournament was difficult for the Women’s Lions. The team played five matches and only managed to score four goals.
