The three-match winning streak of HIFK was broken on Friday during the Liiga round in Pori, as Ässät was stronger with a score of 3–2.

According to the captain of the Helsinki team, Iiro Pakarinen, there is still a clear improvement in the team’s game following the coaching change.

– Clearly, we have gained more courage with the puck and a certain self-confidence through that, Pakarinen states to SuomiKiekko after Friday’s game against Ässät.

– Now it has been quite clear for us that when we go hard, we go, and then when we don’t, we take it easy and set up a trap. Those are probably the biggest things, Pakarinen sees.

The 35-year-old forward, who has played 135 NHL games in his career, will return to the national team in next week’s EHT tournament after more than two years. Pakarinen is looking forward to the home tournament.

– With great thoughts. Last season went how it went, and I had quite a big injury, and unfortunately, I couldn’t participate. It’s great to be involved and wear the lion jersey. And a tournament in Helsinki, what could be better, Pakarinen, who last represented the Lions in the spring 2024 World Championships, rejoices.

Regarding the news released on Friday about Russia’s possible return to the World Championships, Pakarinen did not want to comment.

– I won’t comment on that myself. It’s not my business. I’m sure the big gentlemen have decided what they have decided, and that’s how it has to be, Pakarinen simply states.

Pakarinen, who succeeded in scoring once on Friday in Pori, has collected 17 points with 8 goals and 9 assists in the first 18 games of the season.

Pakarinen was interviewed by Heikki Kurkinen.
