Tappara has signed a two-year extension with its captain Otto Rauhala, 31. The contract keeps the experienced center forward with the team until spring 2029.

Tappara announced Rauhala’s contract on Friday night during the local derby against Ilves played at Nokia Arena.

Rauhala is a product of Tappara’s youth system and has represented the club throughout his entire league career. He has won six Finnish championships with the team and has served as the team’s captain since the fall of 2021.

Tappara’s GM Janne Vuorinen emphasizes the captain’s importance to the club’s success.

– Captain Otto Rauhala’s continuation with the team is a significant matter. Otto is a driving force in maintaining the club’s culture and everyday standards. As a strong competitor, a penalty killer, a faceoff specialist, and a key player in important games, Otto brings the necessary skills for winning to the ice, Vuorinen states in the club’s press release.

Rauhala is also pleased about the continuation of their long journey together.

– I am really grateful to continue with Tappara in the upcoming seasons. This community means a lot to me, and I am proud to be a part of it, Rauhala commented.

Rauhala also won the CHL championship with Tappara in 2023. The forward’s trophy cabinet also includes a U20 World Championship title.
