ZÜRICH. The Lions’ forward Janne Kuokkanen has many irons in the fire. In addition to playing in the World Championships, he is also serving in the military. He is on a sports assignment during the tournament.

So far, Kuokkanen has not had the chance to spend time in the army’s gray uniforms. He went to register, and right away he was sent off with the Lions for the World Championship training camp.

Kuokkanen does not yet know when he will have to return to the barracks. It is possible that Finland will celebrate World Championship gold next Sunday, and on Monday, Kuokkanen is expected back at the barracks.

– Hopefully we win, and hopefully they let us celebrate for a moment, Kuokkanen laughs at the end of Wednesday’s practice.

– We’ll see what the message says on my phone, whether it’s congratulations or that we meet at the barracks.

When Kuokkanen is serving his military duty during the World Championships, his hair must also be short and his beard shaved according to protocol.

– I guess they always check on TV if the beard has grown out, Kuokkanen smiles.

Kuokkanen’s military service has also been taken into account within the Lions’ team. Stories and tips have been shared.

– Yes, the guys who have been there tell how things work and how to sneak away a bit more freely, Kuokkanen carves.
