Olli Jokinen, who was dismissed from HIFK, may be seen as the head coach of Jokerit next season.

Ilta-Sanomat Touru&Hoffrén Forever podcast, journalist Sami Hoffrén highlights Jokinen as a strong candidate for the Jokerit helm.

– Juuso Hahl has an option, but it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if Olli Jokinen were behind the Jokerit bench next season, Hoffrén says.

Jokinen’s chances are strengthened by his long shared history with Jokerit’s sports director Mikko Saarnin. The duo has collaborated at the Florida hockey academy and the Viima coaching company.

– It would be logical. It’s clear that Jokinen is on Saarnin’s short list, Hoffrén assesses.

Jokinen also has a close connection with Jokerit’s part-owner Heikki Viitikko, who was in charge of Jukurit when Jokinen started his coaching career in Mikkeli.

The podcast also discussed the future of current head coach Juuso Hahl. Journalist Ville Touru hinted at the possibility of Hahl continuing as Jokinen’s assistant coach.

– A head coach with a big character would fit better with the Jokerit brand. Hahl could even be quite satisfied continuing as an assistant coach, Touru reflects.

According to Touru, however, Jokinen should examine his own methods after the unsuccessful HIFK stint. Hoffrén also believes that a stronger assistant coach could help Jokinen develop.

In addition to Jokerit, Jokinen was also mentioned in the podcast as a potential head coach for the U20 national team. Finland will host the U20 World Championships at the turn of 2027–28.

According to Touru, Jokinen’s personality and playing vision could fit well with Finland’s youth national team.
