Yle: Ismo Lehkoselta a crushing assessment of KooKoo: “with 85 percent certainty”
The situation for Kouvola’s KooKoo looks bleak in the Liiga. Yle Urheilu expert Ismo Lehkonen assesses that the team’s relegation to a lower division is very likely.
KooKoo’s course has not turned around under head coach Kai Suikkanen. The team has only collected six points from seven matches since the coaching change. Lehkonen does not believe in the chances of the Kouvola team to maintain their league position.
– The pit is indeed deep. I would estimate that there is an 85 percent certainty that the league position will change. KooKoo is in a serious deficit, says Lehkonen.
KooKoo would need to raise their points average to 1.55 for the remainder of the season to reach 80 points. Currently, HPK, in 14th place with its current points average, would be collecting 79 points.
According to Lehkonen, KooKoo’s problems stem from decisions made after last season. The team that reached the finals lost several key players, who were not adequately replaced. Lehkonen believes that last season’s success also created excessive optimism within the club.
– The remaining players had a lot of confidence thanks to last season, but now there is already panic. It would take quite a magician to fix this without relegation.
KooKoo’s situation is also complicated by the improvement of other bottom teams. Lehkonen highlights, among others, the improved performances of Jokerit and HIFK following their coaching changes.
– It is not easy to find three teams that would go down, Lehkonen states.
