Suomalaisvahti was raised to the NHL for the first time – replaces the Leijonat star
The Vancouver Canucks have invited a new Finnish goaltender to their training camp in the NHL.
The team’s general manager Patrik Allvin announces that Aku Koskenvuo, 22, who has played in the AHL and ECHL at the start of the season, will join the Canucks’ training camp. Koskenvuo is filling in for Kevin Lankinen, who is with the Olympic team of the Lions.
Koskenvuo is the Canucks’ 5th round pick from 2021. The 193 cm tall goaltender started his professional career only this season after playing three seasons with the Harvard University team.
Koskenvuo moved to North America in the fall of 2022 from HIFK’s roster. This season, the goaltender has played nine games in the AHL. In the ECHL, he has appeared in six matches.
Koskenvuo has represented the Young Lions once in the under-20 World Championships.
