The former head coach of the Finnish national ice hockey team Doug Shedden continues his coaching career in Italy. The 65-year-old Canadian veteran has been appointed as the head coach of Milano HC, which will start in the multinational ICEHL league next season.

ICEHL is a league familiar to Shedden from last season, when he took over HC Bolzano in December after spending a couple of months as the head coach of Vaasan Sport in the Liiga.

Milano’s coaching staff will also feature Finnish talent, as Finnish goaltending legend Sakari Lindfors will join as Shedden’s assistant coach and the team’s goaltending coach.

The HIFK icon is moving to Milano from Norway, where he has worked as the goaltending coach for Stavanger Oilers for the past three seasons.

Shedden and Lindfors face quite a task in Italy. The new club is currently building its team almost from scratch. At the moment, the only announced contracted players for Milano HC are Craig McKegg, who has played over 200 NHL games in his career, and Nick Saracino.

The responsibility for the construction project has now been given to the experienced Shedden, whose task is to make the new club competitive right from the first season.
