Over 800 NHL games veteran leaves North America – signed a long contract with a familiar team
Swedish forward Calle Järnkrok, 34, leaves the NHL rinks behind and returns to his home country to a familiar team. SHL team Brynäs IF has signed a three-year contract with Järnkrok.
Järnkrok represented Brynäs before moving to North America. He last played for Brynäs in the 2012-13 season. Since then, Järnkrok has played 13 seasons in North America.
In the NHL, Järnkrok played a total of 774 regular season games (143+173=316) and 105 playoff games (5+18=23). He represented the Nashville Predators, Seattle Kraken, Calgary Flames, and Toronto Maple Leafs. Last season, Järnkrok played 56 games in Toronto and recorded 6+2.
– It feels really fantastic to welcome one of our most successful players back home to Brynäs. Calle hardly needs much introduction. He comes home motivated and with a tremendous competitive spirit. Calle will be an important player in our goal to establish our place as a top team in the SHL, Brynäs’ sports director Johan Alcen commented in the club’s press release.
Järnkrok will join Brynäs’ roster tomorrow, Tuesday.
Brynäs IF kan idag meddela att Calle Järnkrok efter 13 säsonger i Nordamerika vänder hem till Gävle för spel i Brynäs IF igen. Den 34-årige centern har skrivit på ett 3-årskontrakt som sträcker sig över säsongen 28/29.
