Disappointing news dropped from Finland’s practices – NHL player sidelined
Urho Vaakanainen was not with the other lion players when the national team skated onto the ice for Wednesday morning’s practice.
Finland is now celebrating its second rest day in the World Championships. The next game is against Latvia on Thursday.
Vaakanainen’s absence from practice is a result of a hit received during the game against the USA. Mathieu Oliver‘s check hit the defenseman hard enough that Vaakanainen was unable to play in the game afterward.
The 27-year-old defenseman from the New York Rangers logged personal minutes of five and a half minutes against the United States before leaving the game.
Vaakanainen was on the ice for over 17 minutes against Germany and nearly 19 minutes against Hungary. He recorded an assist against Hungary.
Iltalehti was the first to report on Vaakanainen’s absence.
